Early Morning Ward

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

Today, we jumped out of bed and followed our new schedule for nine a.m. church. Everyone made it except our eighteen year old. He was out too late the night before and followed his old schedule of sleeping in. For some reason, I'm not allowed to dump him out of bed like my mom did with me-and my husband's parents did to him. My "better-half thinks" that laying low- will encourage him to discover this new schedule on his own. I disagree, but waited till after church though, and told my 18 yr. old this is not the way he needs to start the new year out-he's off on the wrong foot! He mentioned that he just stepped out of bed on the left foot.

"No big deal!", he said. But it was a big deal to me because, I had just sat with my cute little 12 year old's Sunday School Class. We talked about free-agency and casting that voting ballot towards Heavenly Father. Because they are fresh out of Primary, they are so eager to join me in this older class. We have scriptures and prayers, and we formed our new class presidency. I reminded them that they each have a job to do each week. They were pleased as punch to help.

After church and lecturing my son on church attendance, I went in to break my fast with prayer. I was uplifted by my husband's beautiful testimony and the R. S. lesson later on. Both gave me words to live by. I realize that I cannot have everything cookie-cutter perfect here in my house. I need to be patient and let my kids choose the right...or wrong. This is a test-I'm up for it too!

Wonderful thoughts. I know that we all feel pressure to have the cookie cutter existence (I do!)

Nice to see you stepping back a bit :)

Patience, patience! I believe in free agency too--but I have told my children that the choices they have on Sundays are: going to church & being happy; or going to church & being grumpy. (laughs) My oldest is a Jr. so I am not in your shoes yet.

Did you enjoy the rest of your Sunday? Hope you did!

I want the cookie cutter life but have been tossed into the stark realization that I ain't gettin' it!

You're attitude is great!

p.s. we just changed from 9 to 11:30. I hate it. I would much rather be done with it early and have the whole rest of the day at home. But as it is my kids are up and have lots of time to fight, beg to watch tv, etc. Oh well, we'll adjust too!

We go at 1:00 now. I may be the only one in the ward that is totally and utterly thrilled.

Hang in there and give it time. I still have to drag myself out of bed against my will to make that 9:00 meeting. An 18 year old will need to see the difference before he tries to get there on time.

I think I would've felt similar to how you felt. It sounds like you came away from it with a good attitude and great perspective on these kinds of situations and on life in general. Good job!

We have the early morning too!! It is a shocker! But this time around I think I am going to like it.

WHen the kds are little it is so hard to imagine that they will ever want to use their free agency in a way that might hurt them. Love how you were able to work through it though! Thanx for sharing!
